Sophie Powers: Red In Revenge

Emerging powerhouse Sophie Powers releases her debut EP Red In Revenge via Set Records. At just 17 years old Sophie has found a combination of soundscapes to put out her powerful message. Don’t let her age fool you into thinking this is going to be some teenie bopper cliche, Sophie writes in a way that is beyond her years. She blends a wide variety of genres to deliver relatable messages ranging from failed relationships to mental health topics.

Kicking off the EP with Clearview ft. NOAHFINNCE the listener is given just a taste of the talent and depth of the music that they will be experiencing throughout the ep. The song talks about leaving a relationship in the past, and the way that once you accept that the relationship is over you get a much more clear perspective and can begin to move forward with your life.

Life Goes On carries an emotion and theme moving forward from a failed relationship. The freeing feeling of realizing that life goes on and that you can move forward and be happy without that person. Sonically this tracks is a bit more of a mainstream pop song that you would expect to catch on the overhead speakers at a mall.

One of the tracks not previously released as a single maybe an anthem for some listeners and a liberating moment realizing that the relationship they are in may not be the right one. That track is Break Up On The Weekend. Sophie speaks lyrically of the feeling of incompatibility, and the way that at the beginning of a relationship it may not be so easy to notice, but as time moves on you start to see the cracks.

Another track not previously released is, See Me!! which is a proclamation of self confidence. Realizing that your self worth isn’t defined by others and that often times the ones that try to bring you down are the ones that are jealous of things about you.

U Love It ft. $atori Zoom is up next and kicks off a whole new vibe to the ep. The song sonically features a heavy baseline, and an overall edgier soundscape. Lyrically the song is a much more mature track than what the listener may expect. I think this is one of the tracks that will be played at parties, and while getting ready to hype up listeners.

Coming in next with Greed ft. DE’WAYNE talks about not being satisfied with what you have, not necessarily in an ungrateful way but in the competitive way, and with the desire to do better and more. Sometimes that is at the expense of others.

Next up is 1 Thing ft. Kellin Quinn. Another track that is undeniably Sophie Powers, high energy, catchy lyrics, and another guest vocal powerhouse. This song is touching on some mental health topics about how the voice in our minds is sometimes not the most kind. But also the feeling of finding that accepts the mess that we are and gives hope and an escape to the constant battle of our mind.

It may be a bold statement to some, but I think this girl needs to be on more people’s radar. At only 17 years old she is dropping an incredible ep to showcase to listeners the versatility that she has, and the song writing capability. Sophie writes about topics that many people would assume that she wouldn’t know enough about because of her age. I have spoken with Sophie for both podcasts and can say that she is far beyond a good number of adults that I’ve spoken with. This ep is just the start for her, and I’m calling it now that in the next year she is going to have such a following of fans that she will be very hard to ignore, or not have heard something from.
