Episode 1: Sloane (Nick Rosen)

In this episode I speak with Nick Rosen, also known as Sloane. We discussed a variety of mental health topics but put a big focus around Depression and Managing Expectations. We thought this would be a great episode to kick off with and evaluate our own personal battles with depression. Nick was very open about his recent struggles with his mental health, including detailing a time when he was contemplating suicide and called the Suicide Prevention Hotline.

Some of this conversation may be triggering to those battling their mental health so please keep that in mind. We are not licensed mental health professionals, councilors, or therapists. We speak only from our own personal experiences and perspectives.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in people ages 10-34. Let that sink in… at 10 years old we are losing today’s youth to suicide. 46% of people that die by suicide have a diagnosed mental health condition, and 90% of people who die by suicide have experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. The LBGTQ youth community are 4x more likely to attempt suicide than straight youth. Transgender people are 12 times more likely to attempt suicide than the general population. Lastly 78% of all people who die by suicide are male. (per NAMI reports)
