The Ocean Blue Set to Dazzle at Lincoln Hall & Celebrate Album Re-Release
Attention Chicago music lovers! Dive into a night of nostalgia and new experiences with The Ocean Blue as they grace the stage at Lincoln Hall on September 2nd. While many fans are eagerly anticipating the live performance, there's also palpable excitement surrounding the re-release of their iconic album, Davy Jones’ Locker.
Originally dropping in 1999 under the indie label March Records in a limited edition, Davy Jones’ Locker managed to attain an almost mythic status amongst the band's loyal fanbase that dates back to 1987. Critics, too, fell for its charm with PopMatters raving about the band's return, lauding it as "ethereal, delicate, shimmering, beautiful.” Music Box paints a vivid picture of the album's magic, stating, "The Ocean Blue simply makes it work by building simple, supple melodies and dreamy atmospheres that swirl and surround.”
After departing from a successful stint with major labels like the legendary Sire Records and PolyGram/Mercury, Davy Jones’ Locker marked a fresh chapter in The Ocean Blue's musical journey. Lead singer and songwriter, David Schelzel, reflects on the album's significance, noting, "It’s definitely our most eclectic and least fussy record, where we were experimenting with different musical directions, sounds, arrangements, and lyrical themes.” The album's sound echoes the timeless allure of '80s greats like the Smiths and New Order but feels undeniably contemporary, resonating with bands such as Cigarettes After Sex, Beach House, and Fontaines DC.
As we gear up for this special performance and album re-release (set for August 25th), fans can also enjoy their latest single, "Denmark"
