Coheed and Cambria, The Used, and Meet Me @ The Alter at the TCU Amphitheater 9.15.2021
A perfect night for live music, the weather was in the mid to low 70’s and it couldn’t have been a more beautiful day. September 15th 2021, Coheed and Cambria, The Used, and Meet Me @ The Alter played the TCU Amphitheater in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Opening the night was Meet Me @ The Alter a pop-punk outfit that is shaking up the music scene. The band somewhat exploded on the scene after several pop punk covers gaining major traction on Youtube, but also partially because they received public endorsements from Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low, and Dan Campbell from The Wonder Years. They hit the stage with a ton of energy and the crowd was behind them the whole way. They are such a fun show to watch and they are a great choice for this tour to open up and get the energy levels ramping up. They played their songs “Hit Like A Girl”, “Mapped Out”, “Now or Never” and more. They also included a cover mashup of “The Sweetness/My Friends Over You/Break Stuff/ and My Own Worst Enemy”.
Next up was the The Used who over the last 20 years have cultivated a fan base that will follow them forever. This night was no different, the crowd absolutely lit up for these guys and were immediately invested in the performance and singing along. Hitting fans with a variety of songs from their full range of catalog. Whether someone has been a fan since the 2002 self titled album, or they just became a fan with the release of Heartwork, there were songs for everyone. Bert’s ability to captivate an audience is truly a gift. Everyone in the venue was hanging on every word he screamed and every move he made.
One of the more serious yet comedic moments of. the set came when Bert said “Fuck all the US Presidents.” and then listed the presidents in reverse order until getting to Jimmy Carter when he paused and said “well, Jimmy Carter was alright”. It was a great moment and I believe was intended to be a unifying moment where we can all agree that no president has been perfect, or been able to look out for and protect the rights of the vast majority of people.
And then it was time, it was time for the headliners to take the stage, it was time for Coheed and Cambria. When I tell you that the place erupted, believe that there was not a single fan in attendance that wasn’t on their feet or screaming. To say that Coheed and Cambria are iconic or legendary feels like an understatement. The energy that this band gives off is absolutely incredible, between the guitar work of Claudio and his vocals the band has always had fans hooked. Then you add in the storytelling that they accomplish through their songwriting, they are truly second to none when it comes to concept albums, cohesive stories, and the translation of their art. Fans were SHOUTING the words to virtually every song and as another band that has had a 20 year career the possibility of putting together a “perfect” set for everyone is nearly impossible, but they come damn close. They walked fans through the pages of their extensive catalog through the set and then closed out the night by having Claudio equip the famous double neck guitar and took fans home (pun intended) with Welcome Home.
This tour is wrapping up soon, but all of the bands plan to continue hitting the road so be sure to check out their social media to stay up to date with whats happening.
