Flogging Molly, Violent Femmes & THICK at the TCU Amphitheater 9.4.2021

From storms, to a drizzle, to a perfect night for live music. On what started out as a very rainy day, September 4th 2021, Flogging Molly, Violent Femmes, and THICK played the TCU Amphitheater in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two classic bands, one up and coming opener, and the energy to fuel a holiday weekend.

Opening the night, as it continued to rain some, was THICK from Brooklyn, NY. This 3 piece punk band has energy and stage presence beyond their years. From the moment they took stage their presence demanded attention, and it was given to them by the crowd. Amping up the crowd as they played through their set, there likely isn’t a better band to have opening for this show. If you are looking for a band that gives you that old school, vintage underground punk sound this is a band that you need to check out, and soon because they are going to blow up! Mark my words.

Next up was the Violent Femmes who over the last 40 years have cultivated a fan base that will follow them forever. This night was no different, the crowd absolutely lit up for these guys and were immediately invested in the performance and singing along. When you’ve been a band for 40 years you can imagine that a set list is not an easy thing to come up with, but you also have the advantage of a deep rich catalog and can craft a set list that the vast majority of fans will enjoy. Thats what Violent Femmes is able to do night in and night out, ensure that their fans have a show that they enjoy, whether they are a new fan or have followed the band for 40 years they are going to have songs that they love in this set.

And then it was time, it was time for the headliners to take the stage, it was time for Flogging Molly. When I tell you that the place erupted, believe that there was not a single fan in attendance that wasn’t on their feet or screaming. Another band that has had an extensive career so far, formed back in 1997 there were fans in the audience younger than the band’s age which is always so cool to see because it shows that the band was never a flash in the pan or a fluke. They’ve been able to build a large fan base and expand on it as the years have gone on. To say that Flogging Molly is iconic or legendary feels like an understatement. The energy that this band gives off is absolutely incredible, I have seen hundreds, if not thousands of bands and shows, and this one is near the top of the list for the most energy, crowd involvement, and just overall fun. Playing a wide variety of their hits from their 24 year career and even giving fans a listen to new material. There was not a single person the in the audience that didn’t have a good time during their set. And to close out the night they treated fans to “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life” from the movie Life Of Brian.

This tour is running through the end of October and future dates will also have Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. I highly recommend you get out and check this show out to get out of the terrible headspace and daily life that we have had to have through Covid and just enjoy yourself and live music.
